Upgrading your hosting plan without downtime
Move from Stream to Current, Rapids, or Delta (or back) with no downtime. Covers how card and balance payments are handled and what happens to your data.
Changing plans is done in place — no migration, no re-uploading files. Your site stays live while the plan changes.
Change plan in 3 clicks
New panel (rivervo.com/panel):
- Open the project → Website tab.
- Plan and billing → Change.
- Pick the plan (marked Upgrade or Downgrade), the billing period and how to pay, then click Switch to ….
The change takes effect right away — the new limits apply to your hosting immediately. A plan can't be changed while the hosting is suspended; renew it first.
What actually happens behind the scenes?
Your hosting account stays on the same server. Files, databases, email accounts and DNS stay exactly where they are. What changes is the account's resource limits (disk space, number of websites, databases, mailboxes and so on).
No files are moved and your visitors notice nothing.
How is the price change handled?
It depends on how the hosting is paid:
- Paid by card (Paddle subscription): Paddle charges the prorated difference to your saved card immediately. Downgrades also take effect immediately, and Paddle settles the difference for the rest of the period.
- Paid from balance: the new plan's price is charged from your balance, and your paid-until date stays the same.
- No active card subscription: a new Paddle checkout opens for the chosen plan and period.
The panel shows which of these applies before you confirm.
Monthly or yearly?
You choose the billing period in the same Change plan window. For a card subscription, the period can be changed together with a plan change. For a hosting paid from balance, you pick the period each time you Renew.
When should I upgrade?
The most common signals:
- You're close to a limit. The Usage section on the Website tab shows disk, traffic, mailboxes, databases, subdomains, FTP accounts and files against your plan's limits, and warns you when you're close.
- You need more websites on the same account than your plan allows.
- Your site has outgrown its resources — it slows down or hits errors under traffic.
Plan limits are listed on the hosting page. There's no "you must upgrade when…" rule: if your current plan works for you, stay on it.
Can I downgrade if I overestimated?
Yes — same window, pick a lower plan. Before you do, check the Usage section: make sure your disk use, databases, mailboxes and websites fit within the lower plan's limits. The panel doesn't stop you from downgrading while you're over a limit, but things you're over on (for example, creating new mailboxes or uploading files) won't work until you're back under it.
Common questions
- Do I lose any data on upgrade? No.
- Do my email accounts survive the change? Yes, untouched.
- Will my SSL certificates still work? Yes.
- Will my cron jobs still run? Yes.
- Do I need to update my DNS? No — same server, nothing to change.
Still unsure? Write to us from the panel — Help → Write to us — and we'll look at your setup before you switch.
